Question Why does this edge loop stop? (Maya 2011)

Hey Guys,

I'm starting to think more carefully about topology now days and where I would have let an edge loop like this go before, I'm finding I now want to know the reasons for these effects.

It's all quads, there are no dodgy floating verts or anything. Why doesn't the edge loop continue?

That kind of intersection will always stop an edge loop. It can't decide which way to turn - left or right.
