Problem with deleting a polygon

I finished my work in Maya 2012, Im trying to delete a sphere left over and the program closes. The sphere is invisible. Ive tried deleting history. Any other idea? Thanks.

Some data in your scene file associated with the sphere may be corrupt.

Try selecting everything in your scene except the sphere, and export to a new scene file.

Or if its not hurting anything, you could leave it alone.

Ive tried exporting

But the sphere comes along, haha. You are right, is not really important, I can leave it in there, I just wanted it all clean before starting the rig. And I want to learn how to delete it.

What happens if you make it visible and try to delete?

It cant be seen

Even with isolate selected, the pivot is floating in the air...
