Hair in Maya
Hey everyone, I'm new here but I've been using Maya for 3D modeling on and off since 2008. I've just started trying to make hair for a character model I'm making and I'm running into some issues with it, I've tried using Paint FX as well as the nHair functions and neither are working properly on my model. With the nHair I've told it to create it on selected surfaces on a mesh I've got that is shaped like the part of the head i want hair on, i selected every face and told it to make hair, but it only creates some of it, and only on half the mesh. It throws an error that there are already follicles in identical locations so it cant create some of them, but I've made sure that's not the case (deleted every type of history on that mesh, moved the mesh, tried on a subdiv and nurbs version of the mesh, all with the exact same output results. Same follicle positions and error message). With PaintFX I'm having an even odder problem, when i make a surface live and paint on it i get strange outputs, with the above mesh my painted FX show up only on the positive X axis of the mesh, i cannot make them display on the negative side (even after moving the mesh around). They show up exactly as i painted them, just reversed. if i paint on the + side they go exactly where i painted. When i tried painting directly on the character mesh after making it paintable i get more strangeness, when painting an eyebrow on the positive side of the forehead my FX ends up on the inside edge of the same side Index finger! Anyone have any ideas on what in the world is going on here? Any help is appreciated!
