rhino alternative for mac?

Im primarily a modeler by trade and have always done everything in polys, of course there have been times when things would of been easier in nurbs but never something I couldnt get around.

Now I'm going to be modeling a 30's - 40's style car with long sweeping curves, fender scoops etc. I figure this would be the perfect project to try nurbs modeling (which I have never done). The only thing is maya's nurbs are lack luster from what I understand and rhino is not yet available for mac. All the alias products seem great but they're prices at 6-10 grand. Is there a good mac alternative for nurbs modeling that isn't so heavy on the budget?

Also any good nurbs tutorials anyone can point to? There seem to be quite a lack of good ones around.

Well there's Rhino for Mac in dev

http://mac.rhino3d.com

and I think your claim that Maya's nurbs - tools are bad is somewhat arguable.

Go with Maya first and fill out a form to get RhinoMac.

My 2 cents.

Well if you need to use NURBS on a Mac, and on the cheap, you cant beat Blender.

Hmm well I'll give maya a go I guess, but I think blender is probably a good alternative

Hi,
why not give MoI (Moment of Inspiration) a try?
It's made by Michael Gibson, father of Rhino 3D.

+1 for moi. actually MoI is not just another NURBS modeler, as it manages to minimize the dullness which is often a sideeffect of highly specialised nurbs enviornments. imho is moi currently the best nurbs implemenation for artists, despite the fact that it lacks some features offered by rhino. mois key strenght is the streamlinded workflow/gui which allows a more creative approach on nurbs.

if moi doesn't fit your needs solidthinking might also be a solution.

moi does look pretty cool, as of now I went with the original advice and downloaded the unsupported beta of rhino for mac. I'm trying to go through some tutorials, but its very technical whereas I think moi might be a little more user friendly.

MoI rocks

I just started using MoI and it's exactly what I hoped it to be. NURBS modeling is so much faster than in Maya. It feels like MoI knows what you're intending to model, it gets the smoothing and the curvature right most of the time without having to tweak anything.
The viewports and menus are very tidy and simple.
