Do concept or environment artists have to study some Architecture?

Most games' (also films) Environments have a lotof buildings, streets, bridges, tables, chairs,... yet environment modelingonlinecourses (on websites like: pluralsight, Gnomon workshop,...) are software or project based courses.

As an environment artist (or a student)
- how do you manage through this?
-Do studios hire anarchitecture engineer for big projects?
-what courses, books do you recommend for beginners'?

Thanks guys.
