When to model to scale ?

Hey i'm just starting to learn how to use Cinema 4d and am a little confused on scale because i'v been downloading some models and when I load them up their scales vary between a few inches and a few feet . So i'm wondering when should I model to real size and when should I keep my models small (especially for photo realism) ?

Always model to scale because it affects lighting which affects realism.
The models you downloaded were not necessarily created in Cinema 4D.
3ds max has "System units" which can be inches, feet, millimeters, meters, or even miles and Kilometers.

You mention inches and feet, but other people will use millimeters, centimeters and meters.
