workstation hardware report/specs from '98

hehe, I love it. Even though I'm still a quadro fan for maya (at least currently with viewport 1 - vp2 still manages to crash my scenes about once every hour or so) I don't think most people use workstation grade cards anymore or have a particular use for them depending on the software they use.

8 meg video memory, lol just having a web browser open now can easily use up 200+ megs of video ram

at my first retouching job in '94, they had an 8MB video card and I think it cost $5000. They also had a Mac 8100 with 144MB of RAM, which was a ridiculous amount for that time (my personal machine had a whopping 16MB) and I think that ran about $9000 for the RAM alone.
