Workstation build in canada - need advices on parts.

Hi, well it's that time of the year where I need a new computer.

I just moved back to canada and was almost going to buy a Dell as I dont have much time to build a pc but maybe if I can find good advices here, I'll buy the parts on amazon or and build the thing myself.

What I need;

Fast CPU. Can be a quad. Mainly for After Effects + some 3D (LW, C4D).

Motherboard, not SLI. USB 3.0 needed. can be micro. I'd love to save some money here.

Ram; 16gb.

SSD; >64gb

HDD; 2tb. Will use HD footage. Faster is better.

Case; ?? Antec 300? note sure.

Power supply; ??

Graphic card; average is ok but need dual-link dvi for my 27inch Dell monitor.

Ratio quality/price is important to me. I can't resist a good deal.
I think it's all.
So long and thanks for all the fish

I am thinking about just going with this one to save some time and maybe some money:

It got a good last generation CPU and enough RAM. The GPU should do until my good old GTX 285 cross the ocean (it's in a box on a boat).

What do you guys think?

aren't the new i7 4770s limited for overclocking?

Also, the GTX 285 is pretty damn old by now.

And friends don't let friends run Windows 8

Really? is windows 8 bad? I did not follow the reviews or rumors. Windows 7 was pretty decent.

As for overclocking... its a Dell. I would not overclock that.

The GTX 2xx was the last generation of cards not crippled by Nvidia. In the interface, the 285 was better than the 580 (well, 2 years ago). The 680 might be better though...

Those driver issues with the 680 and Maya might be fixed by now. Not sure. I'm using a Radeon 7950 and it's fine if you're looking to go AMD.

I recommend trying Windows 8 in a virtual machine before you move from Windows 7. There's a good chance you'll completely hate it. All my Windows VMs and gaming rigs are being left on Win 7 SP1 because I can't stand 8.

I thought window 8 was similar to 7 as soon as you disable the Metro interface. I'll have to search a bit more infos.

However I was planning to install a SSD and install window 7 as I have a license.

it is, but better.

i spend 1% of my time in the 'new UI' start screen, and have had zero issues with Maya 2014 in it... I'll soon be putting 8.1 update on to see how things work, but I've been rocking windows 8 for a while now.

oh, i have no friends to stop me.
