CPU and GPU together

hey guys i bought quadro 4000 and i want to know how to make the CPU and GPU render together at same time in the same project in 3ds max ????

are you talking about the iray renderer?

for GPU rendering, no

rendering engines are either CPU only or GPU only. The possible exception is an AMD APU that I guess can be crossfired with the GPU to use with GPU rendering, but I honestly don't know much about it.

Also LuxRender. They don't don't have to be one or the other, but most are probably because it simplifies development. As far as Max goes for the original poster if you want more rendering performance either use iray (which uses the GPU) if you can live with the limitations or it might be time to upgrade the processor (and/or memory and motherboard) if you're running older hardware.
