New HDD and SSD
Hey guys,
I'm looking for a new HDD and maybe SSD. The HDD I got is a bit small and was kept from my old system. I built the one I'm using right now 2 years ago. Here are my spec if that is useful: MB ASUS M4A77TD AMD770 R VGA MSI N260GTX TWIN FROZR OC RT PSU CORSAIR|CMPSU-650TX 650W RT CPU AMD|PH II X4 965 3.4G 6M RT MEM 2Gx2|A-DATA AX3U1333GB2G8-AG R VGA MSI N260GTX TWIN FROZR OC RT Current hard drive : Seagate 320GB Serial ATA hard drive SSD that seems to be a good pick: Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC (link:http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produc...N82E16820148442) For the HDD.. I'm hesiting between those 2: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM or Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM Mostly, I use Photoshop, Zbrush and 3dsmax. I never used SSD before but heard that it could inceased the OS speed. Any thoughts? Thank ![]() |

hi, yes you will notice an increase in performance using the SSD for your OS, if you keep everything on it (programs, swap/cache, operating system, etc...) no doubt about that.
while programs are executing, you may notice an increase in performance for apps that frequently load and unload libraries (frequently), but that depends on the application and how it was programmed. My opinion is that you will notice a greater performance benefit by using the SSD in daily work for scratch/swap space, "working" project data, large data sets, etc. A program will normally load or unload libraries as needed, but these are generally small reads, and common libraries are not always unloaded from memory until the program is exited. How often you are restarting your OS or programs could determine how you setup your system. I do have friends though that only use SSD for their entire system and love it. |

I'd look at upgrading RAM before going to an SSD.
SSD's are great but I'd get that RAM up to 8-12 first. __________________

thanks again Not necessarily. More RAM will only help you if you are currently hitting the limit of your RAM. I googled your model number and it shows as a 2x2GB kit, so assumed it was 4GB, which is on the small side. __________________
