Do we need to start a thread and post W.I.P images, or just a final image

Man, you have to check the rulez! It's not a W.I.P chalange. You only have to post the final image.

No, in this case, you'll need to use the black borders.

2560x1600 was chosen as it's the largest common screen size.

"Specifically we want to see exciting new images, that are clearly a product of the digital world. However, we don't just want technically excellent renders that are lacking in artistic beauty. The whole point is to create images that are clearly creations of the digital world but retain the artistic beauty and composition of a traditional painting."

Yes it can be - but it needs to be evidently digital.

I've already started working on something I would like to submit, and I'm wondering if I'm allowed to show previews of it on other forums for feedback. As I'm not publishing the finished image.

You may display it elsewhere within CGSociety, your portfolio, or the WIP forums for example. But not on other sites.

I only ask this as January seems far too close and building a character from scratch (although not a necessity for this competition) would make it that much more difficult.

If it's in a new setting, that would be fine.

Btw...

...this is coincidental timing, but I'd like to invite all CG artists, whether they participate in "NVArt" or not, to partiipate in NVIDIA's annual development survey. Each year we try to poll the 3D community about what they're doing and what they'd like to do -- we use the information to guide and prioritize our developer education, event, and toolkit efforts. In past years the respondees have been primarily engine programmers and academics -- those are important folks too, but the arts get surprisingly under-represented!

This year we're also expressing our appreciation for people's time by entering the (optional) emails of all respondants into a GiveAway drawing for some GeForce 8800 cards and copies of GPU Gems 3.

Press http://surveys.nvidia.com/index.jsp...29659a0&s=31337 if you'd like to participate!

Cheers and Thanks Very Much,
Kevin Bjorke
