Thanks for droping by, I'm glad you liked it!

Thanks! Remember the talk we had about diffuse and specular, hand in hand?

Thanks mate! Maya does this sort of things to pepople! Eh, and mamals!

You are right about the blue tint! I was just interested to give a kind of painterly
effect to the scene and what's in it! the colors of the whale are supposed to share
the same palette as the rest!
Thanks for the comment man!

Thanks a lot! Yeah, those bad orcas and white sharks!

Modeling: distant trees

A few trees in the horizon!

Hi Mat!

Very cool background image and again your painterly effect! Very good (and light...) trees!!!

Check this link (it doesn't have much to do with your image but I know you like and appreciate this...) ->no hard feelings man?

Be cool

I'm back...

Thanks mac! I'm glad you liked it!
About the link, it's a very useful reference with great explanations, thanks for
posting it!
All ok!

the whale looks great
I would add some smaller bushes between the trees
  08 August 2007
Thanks ania!
I see your point about the bushes! My original plan was to create an almost bare landscape
with very few, if any, vegetation, but then I changed the fish to a whale and now, your
point makes very sense! There will be a lot of trees and bushes on the right side, and of
course between the trees!
thanks for pointing it out!

Hey man! Great models, I especially love the whale. The only thing that's kind of bothering me in the sky. It seems so flat compared to how detailed your models are. I dunno how to do better then just a texture on a environment sphere/cube ::shrugs:: Maybe it's just me ^^;

looks great still though.

Thanks for the critique Chiko! I totally agree with you about the sky/clouds! This is my
fifth or sixth sky and I've already used lots of time on it!
the way I see it, there could be two solutions to diminish that flatness:
1- some particle clouds/paint effect clouds as overlays!
2- Trying to incorporate more of the sky colors in the vegetation (to come), which is
actually my plan A! that way, the sky might loose some of the focus and get more
invisible to the viewer!
hehe, I don't know better either! I'm not a very good matte painter!
Thanks again for dropping by!

Shading (Textured and lit): Overall color test!

Just a color test to see how things are coming together!
Thanks to mdavid, I got the right look for the sea and the foam along the shore, still procedural, the way I like it!
The whale needs to be rigged and posed, I just put it there to see how it interacts with the scene, and there will be some more changes to the whale as well, and it will have additional lighting from the camp fire and two torches!
The right side will no longer be that bare as in the sketch, I'm planing in puting some lush vegetation, kind of strange grow, and more stones and grass!
By the way, there is no depth of field in the scene right now!
Feel free to add your suggestions!
