Second Head in Mudbox (Vulcan)

Hi all,

I am new to mudbox, and I have probably made a newby mistake.

Ok I made my original mesh in 3ds max, and imported into mudbox. I started scuplting and got up to level 4. Then I decided to grab the ear and shape it.

Now here is the problem as I have been using the grab to shape it I have lost resolution in the ear. Is there a way to add more resolution to the ear without adding to the rest of the geometry.
Also why have I lost the resolution? Have I done something wrong?

I know I can shift D and up the whole lot, but that means the head would still have tons more resolution than the ear, and I believe I would have to shift D twice before I got enough resolution in the ear.

Ok one more question. Should I have shaped the ear at a lower level before getting to level 4?

I suppose my only other althernative is to start adding details to the face, and then do the ear once I get to the correct resolution.

Here is a picture to show what I mean.
