Help Where did my details go? mudbox 3ds vray

I model this knight in mudbox and i cant get all the details
inside 3ds max, with vray. can anybody help me to finde the
awnser to this? Thanks in advanced.

have you baked a 32bit exr displacement map..?
or are you trying to put the normalmap into the dispmap modifier?
may i see the vray dispmap modifier settings.?

you should use a 16bit .tif file... or an 32bit .exr file...
8bit .png isnt enough information to get a clean displacement...
and if you bake an exr file you have to set the texmap min in the dispmodifier to -1...
if your negative values are higher than -1 go down to -10 for the texmap min setting...

Oglu, here is the resault

Hello Oglu, this was the resault, a create a 16 bit displacement map in mudbox
i then load it in the vraydisplacement mod. and render it with vray. I set the texmap min to - 1
and i also try it as -10 but didnt change too much. Thanks in advance.

there are no negative values in a 16bit dispmap... so you dont need the -1
only for 32bit maps...

are you using the level0 mesh to displace your model in max..?
if you sculpt in mudbox your level0 mesh will change its not the same as your imported mesh...
a dispmap will only work in max if your bake mesh and the mesh you are using to render is the same...

have you scaled your mesh in max..? scaling wont work if you use a dispmap...

My workflow

Hello Oglu here is what i did. Still having no resaults. Any idea? Thanks in advanced. P.S.: the displacement map is a 16 bit tiff file.

are you doing some gamma correction in the dispmap for linear workflow..?
dispmaps need no gamma correction...

You have to use the override 1.0 option to read your disp file... Also normal, bump, and spec maps... Only diffuse maps have to use the system gamma...

Override 1.0

Hi oglu i loaded the dispmap with override 1.0 check. Now the resault is much better and smoother Still i can´t get as much detail as in mudbox. Thanks!

with an 32bit exr file you should be able to get the exact same result...

Almost there

Hi oglu, this was the resault using a black and white 32 bits exr (4k) image. This is much much better than all the others renders. There were some problems with some parts. but almost there. Why do you think this happend?, I can´t thank you enought for all the help you ve been giving me. thanks.
