Cool

i wouldnt start from the scratch, its a very cool piece - even greg bear himself liked your work, and that is something, isnt it? ok, as for coloring tests, you might do what i done, i take t you still have the outlines so this should be done fast. make 3 or so versions, very small in scale like 300x400 or so, to test different values. also, thumbnails force you to work on an allover image, not taking care of too many details, and a 3rd and important plus, you cn work very fast and try things without messing anythig up on your mainpiece. drafts/thumbnails are great to find a new focus, and sometimes by just watchng it, there's another neat effect, you can see thngs in things you havent even seen before
hope you wont drop it cuz its a great work, simply try on thumbs what you could change and then, when having an idea of the new direction, move to it focussed and work towards the decieded way.
keep on rocking mate, your piece is great. dont kick it that would be a shame.
cheers

I agree with Sasha about trying different values. Also make some composition correction and will be much better.. for an exaple try to move mans face more to the left, so the girl wouldnt cut his eye off, bring something more to the left side where that blast is at the moment (its to unbalanced right now... add some space dust and smaller elements there) and play with colors a bit. I think it would be a shame to left this design and start once again from a scratch. But thats just my opinion. Good work so far!
