Concept Art: Hopefully definitive concept :)

Like *this* Patricia more, still trying to get the right combination of olive skin and white light.

Ciao Tiziano,

You've created a very intriguing image so far- rather surreal. A problem I can point out at this stage is that the background and characters seem rather separate, almost as if they're on different planes. Maybe try and overlap things a bit more...have things touching people and try and introduce more perspective/scale?
Keep going!

Ciao, Theresa!

First of all,thank you.
May I ask a favour from you? I haven't quite understood your meaning (must be my poor English, beg your pardon), could you clarify a bit, please?

In my idea the characters are on the train-stop platform of the fourth chamber, as such overlooking the landscape but not really part of it, they are indeed on a different plane. This being just a scketch probably they look more separate that they will be later on, but yet...

Yay! That one is much better! Awesome.
I really like the way this composition draws the eyes now. You aren't quite as settled on Patricia. As for skin tones, perhaps take a look at some classical paintings of Latin Americans or Mediterraen people and experiment?

Old 10 October 2006   #21
I think you have too much curvature to the chamber. Then, you have an opposing curve with the foreground. Try making the foreground platform fit with the curve of the background, it will relate better. Then maybe your curves will look right. Also, try to pick up colors or patterns or shapes from the background to work into your figures to relate them. Right now they are heavily seperated.

Thank you, Nekomouse glad you like! I'll certainly try that for skintones:-).

Ernest, thank you for commenting, let me, though, point out that:

1) this is merely a compositional sketck: the definitive colors will come later, I don't mean at this stage to do all the color fitting and blending that will go on the final image , at the moment I'm interested mostly in how the shapes fit together.

2) the platform is a plane very close to the viewer, elevated above the landscape (if I recall is about six meters from the ground ) as such I don't mean for it and the landscape to blend together.

Will see to flatten a bit the curve in the nearest part of the landscape. :-)

Line Art / Model: The Fourth Chamber final lineart

After some delay due to commissions and the research of the right face for Patricia, I'm finally happy enough with this version to say it is the definitive linework of my entry. Now on to color! :)

I like the Patricia in the last line art you posted. It seems you captured her round face and intense eyes. I also like the position her body is in better than the others. I love the chamber feel in the color sketch you did.

Old 11 November 2006   #26
Oh Yes! I definately prefer this Patricia! She looks far more alive, more vibrant and dynamic. Yay! Colour please!

Thank you!

Nice work on teh pic of Patricia. She looks really nice, as does the landscape behind her. The character on the right (Lanier?) feels as if you haven't given him quite as much attention as Patricia yet. His position is a bit stiff, and he doesn't seem to serve a purpose aside from showing the scale on the right half of the image. Have you considerred some other poses? Or perhaps making him turn back towards Patricia? He could be playing tour guide, or making some point... Maybe he has binoculars, or an electonic tablet that he's checking, like the kind Patricia uses in the book. Your very first image of him, while still rough, felt like a more life-like pose.
Anyhow, good luck!

Oh, my, the Walrus has been here!

Thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to comment.
I see your point, I tried to show the sort of 'unease' that is between Patricia and Lanier at this point in the novel (the very beginning) but evidently I've missed the target.

Later tonight I'll try and experiment with different poses for him that may put Garry in better relation to Patricia.

Thanks for the well wishes, the same to you (as if you needed them... )

A different particia

A different take on Patricia. Good. Very good. Looking forward to seeing the colour pass. By the way are you going to include anything else in the background?
