Multi coated lens shader
Hi everyone, I have an upcoming project that requires a nice multi coated lens shader, where it have a nice tint of color from a certain viewing angle.
Anyone have any tips regarding this shader? Any help is much appreciated! Thank you! Reference: ![]() |

Software? In Max you could use a multicolor ramp mapped to the viewing angle (normal), placed in the reflection and specular color of your glass material.

I use maya with Mental Ray / Vray depends on which gives me a good result.
I was thinking along the line of adding ramps dependent on viewing angles in maya as well, but I am curious if there r shaders already built for this purpose? Or any physical shader that are built for this phenomena? |

If you like iray, you can get a thin film coating material here:

There might not be any built in shaders in Maya for that purpose, (ones that aren't hidden anyway), but you can download some custom MR shaders - Check my last post here -

Hmm, looks like the tektoshoot website has been down for a while...I haven't been able to find a link for it anywhere. I have the T2S Illumination shader, not sure if its okay to distribute it though.

Also, you will probably need to model different lens elements to get multiple reflections and refractions. A good environment map will also be key to making the shader look good.
