Ok guys lets talk about our Next challenge...

First I would like to say that I am very sorry that I have been off reservation in the past two weeks. I have been deep in the middle of the politics and logistics of reorganizing my local chapter of SIGGRAPH, and that took a ton of my time away.

So lets talk gravy, AKA our next challenge...

What do you guys want to do?

I am leaning to do something more based on traditional art.

Maybe MASTERS OF ILLUSTRATION.
or
ANCIENT ROMAN SCULPTURES
or
TREASURES OF THE BRITISH MUSEUM.

What do you guys think?

I would join if these were the choices.

I'm working on a model of a ship that has classical style figure carvings on the stern and bow, and maybe this might motivate me to get them done. I could also use some feedback on my work, and seeing that some really top notch character artist do these challenges, would be a good opportunity to do so.

masters of illustration

Scote is correct on masters of illustration.. Its super broad.. I like being able to have variety when working, but its less challenging IMO. I feeel it needs some restraints to make it worthy of a challenge. What about narrowing it down to
Poster illustrations from 1900-1940.
Beer label illustrations.
Etc..etc...

As far as the other two suggestions.. I like em both.

Next challenge

MASTERS OF ILLUSTRATION is wide open to interpretation. Could you narrow it down to specific artists or categorizes.

guys we will do Roman Sculpture, but for Masters of Illustration I wanted to cover specific art movements (19th century Illustration (And the amazing book covers of the time),Art Noveau, Art Deco, the 60's).

For Masters of Illustration I would just consider how well the material converts into modeling and sculpting. Roman Sculpture is obviously perfect for this.

So Masters of Illustration sounds like taking paintings/drawings into 3D? Or something more sculptural? Could be cool, especially the book covers. Art Nouveau would be really cool... art nouveau artists

Been doing a ton more zbrush lately which would be perfect for something like this, I feel much more confident!

Okay, never mind what I said. Those would be great to sculpt in 3D.
