The beacon and the shoulder was made separate for me. I also separate the wing part at some point in the wip. It's a queue

Yeah, I was going to join the shoulder pad and police-siren together, but they are still two separate objects at the moment under the names Siren_R and ShoulderGuard_R.

The wing - I think you mean the left-most part of the shoulder - is connected to the "shoulder guard"(I suppose "shoulder-pad" might be a better name for it...) just to keep separate objects to a minimum.

I tried to use groups earlier on but that seemed to cause errors in the display, but since ditching them and keeping objects to a minimum that hasn't happened since. Silo is a funny bugger at times, at which one wishes they were using something like Max or Maya instead, but Silo is so damn good a modeller its worth sticking with. If only NeverCenter would resume its development...

Working on a small game project alongside this HMC, so I'm doing extra modelling on the side. Progress will be slow on this HMC but I'm aiming to do a little each day.

Did a form study from the rigged blockout mesh. It is to give me ideas for the actual basemesh build, which i will do in 3dsmax and bring into zbrush to sculpt.

Great progress, guys! Can't wait to see this one finished.

My advice for a mech of this scope would be to think real-word manufacturing and keep everything in as many separate pieces as possible, maybe even break the large pieces up further than is shown in the concepts. That makes things not only more manageable to model, but will also add "free" complexity and a sense of scale to the overall look during rendering etc. Also, keep in mind that the original concepts are probably designed for flicker-free hand-drawn animation, so a lot of small detail is omitted in them which can easily be reintroduced/added on in cg.

Cheers!

Cheers, Felix.

Regarding separate objects, I agree but sadly Silo doesn't as much. When the scene has too many objects, or I try to group them, the whole display just disappears for no apparent reason.

I had this problem on the last HMC when - comically - the Rhedrosaurus' teeth popped out of his mouth in a strange arc whenever I increased the subdivision. I would decommission Silo from my workflow as its not had an update in yonks, but its the fastest and most enjoyable 3D package I have ever used. Sadly its just those odd issues that crop up once in a while...

If only Blender wasn't so bloody awkward I would forget Silo for low-poly, but right now Silo is the best option.

Wasn't sure how to proceed so I figured I'd have a bash at the hand. If nothing else it might persuade Scote to finally work on the mits too...

UPDATE

Been occupied lately, but today I threw down the gauntlet to do another update - no matter how small. Sometimes you sit looking at your wip not having a dickens as to how to go about it, so sometimes you just need to mess around and tweak until it comes together.
