This is the Rhedosaurus from The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms(1953). It was Ray's first gig on his own following Mighty Joe Young(1949) on which he was an assistant animator to his idol and mentor, Willis O'Brian of King Kong fame.

I only enjoy modelling as a hobby, as programming is my forte along with rigging, but I do feel I have improved in topology as I had difficulty trying to redirect edge loops and understanding where they needed to be redirected. Having attempted to model the Rhedosaurus I feel I know him a little better than before...why with another attempt I could quote a character from the film "Why the Rhedosaurus and I are old friends!"...which is ironic as he gets eaten in the next scene!

Many thanks to all the great artists here for giving up their time to guide me with the topology and special thanks to Roberto Ortiz for kindly hosting this HMC in honour of a great legend in film visual effects.

The 7th Voyage of Sinbad(1958)
It's an incredible cinematic adventure as the legendary Sinbad sets off on a dangerous journey to the mysterious Island of Colossus. His quest is to break the spell cast over his beloved princess by a diabolical magician. But before he can save her, Sinbad must battle an awesome collection of mythical monsters, the man-eating Cyclops, a saber-wielding skeleton, a ferocious two-headed bird called the Roc and a fire-breathing dragon.

For you Mr. Harryhausen.
A tribute to the master.

Comments & Description
I am truly humbled to have this opportunity to honor one of my childhood heroes. I must've spent literally hundreds of hours watching his films as a kid. And out of those films, none of his characters scared me or thrilled me as much as Medusa. I still remember the first time I saw Clash of the Titans and how creeped out I was when I heard that rattle. And then the building tension of the scene up to the climax with Perseus. It took some good parenting to convince me she wasn't real.

Thanks to Roberto for giving me some more time. I was able to take the finished model and play and experiment more than I'm usually able.

Base modeling in Lightwave 11.5
Sculpting, Texturing in ZBrush 4r6
Rendered in Lightwave 11.6
Base rig created in Genoma
Firefx with TurbulenceFD

Thanks guys for all the feedback and encouragement, I wouldn't have finished without it.

Best Model -WyattHarris .. Sheer amount of work is very impressive.
Kudos to Stevie Ray. Nice tribute, wish you could have sculpted it.
Other notable entries could have been more polished, and more accurate. That would have swayed my vote.

Cheers to all who entered.

Roll on the next event.
