HMC #38 - Cyclops - Original Challenge

Here's my Cyclops from the original Harryhausen challenge.
Re-rendered and rigged using pmG's Messiah rev 6
Posted for reference.

Gods, what a monster!

How did you go about putting the hair on his legs, and what is your opinion of Messiah for the animation side of things?

pmG's messiah has a hair/fur feature that was used for these renders.

I like using messiah for animation over Maya and Lightwave
Rigging can be done quickly and for this cyclops creature I just used messiah's autorig feature with a few extra added place holding bones.
No weight maps were needed.

That looks pretty cool. I never used my copy of Messiah from the sale, may give it a try.

It is certainly worth spending a bit of time to check it out. It has some really nice animation tools now and the renderer is pretty capable with a decent set of fur and hair tools.

Sounds good. Thanks for the feedback.

Spent some time tweaking geometry and adding facial rigging

Awesome to see the Cyclops doing his Al Pachino impression...

"I'LL TAKE YOUR ****ING SPEARS! YOU'LL NEED A ****ING DRAGON TO TAKE ME DOWN!"

Awesome Tony, I'm loving your constant upgrades. I always have ideas that I'm going to go back and finish old projects. I'm glad someone is actually doing it.

Thanks Wyatt, this model was started when I got my first copy of Lightwave 5.5 back in the day of orange screens of death on the mac. Even I am finding this effort of mine to polish a turd hilarious and close to troubling.

If nothing else it has taught me that my eye for proportion is somewhat challenged but
over time I've been able to push points around to get closer to the real Ray cyclops.

Made a few more geometry tweaks and add another layer of fur for contrast.
Under 5000 polys, rendered and rigged with pmG's Messiah 6

More geometry and fur adjustments.
Posted in the spirit of sharing my homage to the late great Harryhausen!
