HMC #37: Femme Fatale! Daryl Hannah as Pris (Bladerunner)

I have always wanted to make a 3d model of Pris (Daryl Hannah) from Bladerunner.

Here are some snapshots from the movie, also references I use to model:


I am not sure if I'm going for this costume yet. Guess I will be modeling out the head and body first, then decide about the costume later.

Heres the first look of my model so far.
Still alot of tweeks to be done.

Crits are very welcome.

Not sure if I will be making ears on her. It depends a little on how I make the hair, and if the ears will show in the end or not. Don't want to spent unnessecary time if I can avoid it.

Nice... my Zbrush bugged and now my file is corrupted.
Oh well. Back to squere 1.

Anyway, since last time I made a front view reference for the body:


And instead of using zspheres, I started on a basemesh in 3d studio max:

You should save a different file each hour or so. pris-v01a - v01b, etc

And never delete the files.

It's a save precaution that all 3d artist learn someday.

yeah, you should do that or after each big iteration. It should have recovered the file though in your zbrush directory. Check C:\Program Files (x86)\Pixologic\ZBrush 4R5\Recovered Files.
My file is named lara_recover04_recover03_recover01.max lol. crashed many times.

On a side note at least now you have a base mesh with good topology.

Hehe, you guys are right, and thanks for the advice, I will start saving more files now. Though I have not too many bad memories on max recovery files.

In Zbrush, do I save the document itself or the tool? Cus I want the different devided levels on the model, not just the .obj-file if you know what I mean.

No recovery either btw, though thanks for mentioning the folder.

Here is a little more work done on the basemesh:

Focusing on topology now, will focus more on shape later.

You should save the tool and the project files.. I save both in case of a lost.

The tool save with all the subtool and the subdivisions with them

An absolute killer of a choice. Hannah was perfect for that role. Ears and features are looking a bit small atm. Are you using front and side reference photos?

Thanks alot for the pointers Kanga, you are right about the features and ears.
And about the refs, I use some snapshots from the movie. I don't have perfect front and side view photos, but I have some that is almost, hehe. But I used these mostly for the basemesh. Now I'm using photos from different angles trying to make everything fit.

Put an eye in the socket and did some more tweeks on the propotions all over:

So, I tried out fibermesh in Zbrush for the first time.
The hair is far from perfect, but it gives me a better idea of how the model is going to turn out, and helps me to see what I have to change/tweek in the face.

I think the hair is decent. What is your method for rendering it? do you export the curves from zbrush or just straight out export the mesh? How are your render times?

I also think that the forehead is too rounded at the edges and maybe the mouth/chin area a little too small?
