HMC #37: Femme-Fatale - Brittany Murphy as "Boom-Boom" (X-Men)

I kinda like the obscure 80s characters. Tabitha "Boom-Boom" Smith is one of my favorites. A victim of child abuse, she developed the power to create energy-based "time bombs" that ranged from marble to beach ball sized. She's been blowin' sh** up since 1985's "Secret Wars II" and has been a member of the X-Men, X-Factor, New Mutants, NextWave, X-Force.

I'm going to try and take her as far as I can with a Brittany Murphy likeness. If I have time, I might push forward with a diorama. Some variation of that center scene where she blows up the forest. I've got 2 months to work on it so...

A few of my references:

Wow, Boom boom, now that brings back some 90's xforce comicbook memories. Nice choice for a model with britney murphy, very clueless movie. Can't wait to see the updates.

Got distracted this morning by arguing with my dry cleaner over some lost clothing. Frustrating. Will get started on Boom-Boom tonight. Of all her costumes, I like the John Bogdanove designed one with the cut off shorts the best. It's got that retro Madonna look with all of the layers. I'll do some variation on that one, perhaps borrowing from Madonna's old wardrobe too.

Had to grab some more reference material for a style guide. Didn't quite feel comfortable without one, especially since her original design is very rooted in the 80s - particularly Madonna.

Had to get together a rough model sheet for the likeness too. Obviously, I mirrored the front. This is just for me to build my starting point head. Her face is pretty asymmetrical so I'll have to adjust that at sculpt time in ZBrush.

Think I have enough references for the character herself. On with the show!

Finally got started in earnest tonight; after the NBA game. I'll tackle the actual likeness once I get it into ZBrush. Just going for sculptable topo at this point. Should be done with this rough base head this afternoon (Monday).

Good choice. Well, BRitney murphy definately fits the femme fatalle (sadly) not sure if boom boom fits but it'd still be good to see.
