HMC MINI-Chalange#37:Femme Fatale! Gyarados- Lara Croft

HMC MINI-Chalange#37:Femme Fatale! Gyarados- Lara Croft

Hey all. I will be attempting to model a young version of lara croft from the new crystal dynamics tomb raider game.
I have had some troubles with my previous project and i would like to use this opportunity to overcome them. Things like hair, anatomy and modeling of the clothes etc.

I also bought a tablet(intuos 5) which, hopefully, should come sometime next week so i cant wait to try that out.

Is this your first tablet or a replacement? If first it will help tremendously.

it is gonna be my first tablet. I decided to splash out and buy the medium one because i think iam getting more serious about this hobby. I must say though that i have gotten used to using my mouse with zbrush so i guess that is gonna take some time to change.

Your human proportion is very good, but It's not the proportions of Lara yet. Who is you ref actress for your orthographic?

yeah youre right scote i actually havent used lara's concepts yet for sculpting.

I used andrew loomis's book for the head proportions and vanderpoel's for facial features. I also looked up things in deviant art for stock photos for individual facial features which i try to incorporate. For the overall face i use inspiration from fantasy artist like Marta Dahlig and others from here .

So i blocked in the proportions of the body and also added some stuff to the head to let me see it as a whole.

I didnt work on it much besides proportional changes. I will continue to iterate till the body is done.

So i put in some temporary textures to assess the sculpt. I also blocked in the tank-top and trousers.

iam glad that its not complete rubbish.

Anyway, i dont know why i modeled out the eyes at this stage but i did. I tried using Kybel's eye setup.

I took the eye textures from Kybel's thread and not sure where else the iris is from .

I didnt feel compelled to work on this so i gave it a rest, but iam back working on it again. Looking kinda shitty.

So i tried adding the eyes together with the head and now the boring part is about to start where i go back and forth between zbrush and max and fix things up as i see them. So many things need fixing before it might look decent.

Also i got the displacement map to work with the eyes.

Iam facing a few problems maybe someone can help. How do i set up multiple uv sets in 3dsmax? I have the uvs done, but the portion which i want in a different channel is outside the 0-1 area. How to i take the uvs beyond the 0-1 and put on it another channel without having to re-UV it.

I also had problems with the inner refraction of the eyes rendering completely black so i disabled it from the lighting calculations. Anyone had any similar problems?

-some earlier test with the eyes

-first test render

This is coming along very nicely. Very good render. Your shaders and lighting are quite nice. Are you using mental ray and SSS?
