This is my modelling project in Classical Sculpting style. Since many of the classical sculptures are in form of broken legs, arms, nose..etc, today, i consider a Greek sculpture as an handicapped sportsman competing in Paralympic Games.

The statue(or the sportsman) is in the posture of one reference that i have found in the search. That one is suitable for an archer pose. However, i will sculpt his head as "Alexander the Great"'s(for my favor who may be seen as an old warrior in Paralympics) or the Greek God HERMES's head(because he is believed as the man who found Sports in mythology). So the model will take his name as Hermes or Alexander.

Since an archer handicapped in arm uses his mouth to pull the arrow back, my model will be seen as using his mouth to hold his arrow, too because his right arm is broken(handicapped).
Furthermore, since in my reference image the body's one leg is broken, too, i may use a mechanical leg for him to assit him when he is standing. The action will be posed while the model is about to let the arrow go. However, he will only be lack of one hand, i imagine that he has his left hand(to be able to be able hold the bow).

Let's see what the result will be! good luck to everyone!

still working on the bow one side is almost completed. i am looking for a good side view image of the referance bow...

the bow has finished, but the accessories have not. The recurve limbs(commonly preferrred for olympics) are OK, too. the other stuff will complete the composition.
I should accept that it has much time than i expected, and still takes.. :o)

as soon as i finish the archery instruments, i am gonna start my sculpting!

I'm looking forward to seeing more

Bow looks very good.

Your idea is fantastic. Love the idea of broken Greek statues actually being Paralympians.
Clever clever clever!

Hi! I still keep modeling the arrow accessories.
The sight part(as i have been just learning each name has just finished. I thnk the other accessories are much easier and will take less time.

This one is the reference. I made a combination of these two products.

and the result is here. Since it is a very detailed piece of the bow, i present more images:

Hope to upload others soon!

Hi again, before i complete small details of the arrow, i needed to hurry up about my statue. So i modeled the base to import in Zbrush(for this reason i ignored the topology to be correct).

then my step will be to start sculpting and posturing in Zbrush.

After i finished the base of my model in Maya, i transformed it into the T pose to prepare it for the archer pose. Then i imported it into Zbrush to start sculpting. Here is seen the first touch for the anatomy study of my model. I have worked in sbd. level 2.
Next step is work in details in higher levels.

Since i find little time nowadays(because of busy days in office), i could just find time to sculpt the hands. Then i may need to decrease the size of hands...

I have started sculpting the face of Alexander the Great. Here are some references that i have used for sculpting. My statue's face is combination of 2 references.

However, i have not finished the head yet, still i need to deal with the ears and the big hair. The hair will cover the head as a big piece, i did not mind the narrow shape of the head, as you will see.

Also you can see the portions here. I would like to learn if you see sth in bad portion(the neck may seem large, but it is so in my references to show statues powerful, i think).

Today is face is in a better condition, and i have started building the hair..
And i have just decided to add a cloth on my sportsman
