8yr African Child Soldier- Bust Questions

I'm having a hard time finding info describing facial features common in adolescents, and African skull structure. Any suggestions regarding ways to better describe this character's age and ethnicity are greatly appreciated.

I could leave well-enough alone, but I feel that I'm just copying references instead of learning about what it is that I'm looking at and why/how it got to be that way.

After posting, I thought of some ways to get better results: narrowing the bridge of the nose and narrowing the temporal bone. Seems to help- feedback is welcome.

your model

I think that the strong jawline is making the child look a little too manly, Maybe bring out the cheekbones and bring in the jaw so it is more narrow. Also i think that the has a wider more shallow shape.
