I try not to. I remember watching that weird short when I was getting into Maya in the Maya complete 3.0 days.

Whatever happened to the guy who made that short? I think he made another one after that (Ryan?) but haven't heard from him since then.

It's actually pretty interesting to see how many features existed in the first version.

I actually had a run in with him several years ago.
He did a premiere for his latest film in Toronto called The Spine.

He explained that he hired students to do all the animation and did a really long winded high-concept pitch at the start. It was about as bad as you'd imagine and the audience just quietly filed out of the cafe after it was done. It was an impressively embarrassing event.

This makes me feel old not just because I remember PowerAnimator etc. before this, but how many of the companies on the reel are gone now. :/

That little bit of nightmare fuel is why I put Maya on a 10 year blacklist.

For those of us who used it it's also pretty interesting to remember how many would invoke an instant thermonuclear orbital strike on your PC

Oh.. Maya had a self destruct button? I remember 3D Studio Viz... it was like Russian Roulette every time you moved a light!

Some (features) were simply too ahead of their time hardware wise, and possibly suffered for the win/SGI hopping, some were downright dangerously chancey. Yes, sort of like Russian roulette, but with most chambers full and only one or two empty on a 6shooter
