I am a little confused by this statement?

Is the wire mode my polygon layout, or the one you have decimated my uploaded asset into?

That's interesting because the department that made the TV versions could have easily pumped out some game versions.

I know cause they did and my team did in-house game prototypes with those down converts 8+ months back =p

Gotta love paying for things 10x over in corporate lala-land.

By default, we generate the wireframe view from your original mesh. However, especially with sculpts, you are not uploading your original asset but rather a lower quality version. In some cases, we do that decimation for you, for example if you upload using our ZBrush plugin or using the optimization parameters in our upload API.

Totally agree, and we're looking forward to being part of the solution to that waste. It's already a step forward to be able to use our tools to repurpose 3d assets for your web properties, but we've also had a number of conversations with potential clients about building an asset management system to make it easier to find/preview existing assets. Stay tuned

Have you made any changes to the system? It's just that the UVs on my uploaded dog model now seem broken.

EDIT: Not the UVs, it just happens that the texture doesn't show up in lit-render mode, but does in unlit-render mode. Traced the problem to a light, which seems to be inverted now (lighting the object from the opposite side to what it used to).

Mo,

It's not an issue with the light, what you're seeing was an issue with the way tangents are being computed. We have been working on those algorithms over the last week, and it looks like while we made improvements for a lot of models, we introduced a bug that is affecting yours. Thanks so much for the heads up, looking into it now, we'll get a fix ASAP.

Thanks. I tweaked it to look OK but I am not sure if that's a permanent solution. Hopefully it's not something wrong with my mesh - it was fine before so i'm assuming it's not that. I appreciate how on-the-ball you are with all this stuff. It's nice to see new features popping up every few days.

Been using Verold Studio in interviews and it's great way to show off your work!
I'm in process of putting all my work into it but please check out my latest piece: Blue Beetle

The integration of a Webgl 3d service in CGSociety is pretty awesome news! That's next level for showcasing work. But I'm a little surprised that CGSociety doesn't give their users the choice of their tool.

It's like I'm posting a work I did on Sculptris or Mudbox and an admin says to me "Hey, we can't let your work showing here, we only support Zbrush work..." And it's not like other services are bad.

I perfectly understand that there is a specific deal/partnership between Verold and CGS.
But allowing users to display their work using Verold or Sketchfab or P3D would not, for sure, breaks the incredible link existing between Verold and CGS.

Each tool has their pros and cons and, as a Sketchfab user, I can say that this service offer a simpler workflow, a great range of supported formats (27 so far) and smoother viewer.
In an other hand it seems that Verold engine is a little more powerfull so far and offer a complex lighting setup. But supports really few formats and mess with normals.

I think it would be incredible to have a larger support for major actors in Webgl 3D viewing tool. It's weird to think that, we, artists, must use a tool...

Sketchfab is reealy agile in highpoly too. That's really an amazing service as Verold sure is.
Here is, in exemple, one of my work.

Hi Maxence,

Thanks for the feedback.

The plugin as it is in the forum is a stopgap. It's awesome to have 3d here, but really unfortunate having it squeezed into such a tiny plugin window. With the redesign of the site, we're exploring ways to provide better support for all media; images, video, and 3d. You'll see the outcome of that work soon, as we roll out the new CGSociety portfolio site.

In the meantime, I'd suggest you try the Verold viewer. It's definitely more susceptible to bad data, and format support is deliberately limited to what professional artists use, but neither of these should hold you back. In fact, I bet if you loaded up your Ferrari model in our editor you'd be amazed at how much better you can make it look.

well how about supporting sketchfab ? Cgsociety does support youtube along with vimeo. Why not also support sketchfab.I think Cgsociety would benefit with more users from the sketchfab community.

i asked the same thing months back(page 2 or 3).. i also mentioned the youtube/vimeo thing for video.. got a disappointing reply from a moderator.. they basically told me to just upload my models to Verold.

Yep I read your post, it seems cgsociety made a partnership... (moderators comment).
So it seems verold has the exclusive rights on the forums... the funny thing is when playing table top monopoly you dont win the game by buying blue estates like "Park place" or "Boardwalk" which are the most expensive and elitist estates. You win the game by buying the best cost effective estates like "St Charles Avenue" and "New york Avenue".Where the most player traffic occurs...
