Ha! Just the idea of a show about the adventures of a surfer who surfs from tiny island to tiny island after the world floods from melted ice is freakin' brilliant. Every episode he solves some local problem, but can't stay (because, you know, surfing is his LIFE!), and he surfs off into the sunset to his next adventure.

Like Kung Fu, only a surfer.

That trailer is awesome. I laughed all the way through. It is good to laugh. Can't blame them for getting their film made.

I saw it. It was stupid, but BOY was it a lot of fun! Actually it was much better than most Asylum flicks I have seen. Who says they don't do films that aren't rips of current blockbusters?

It looks like their FX team got a hold of one of those shatter/destruction type plugins. Some good destruction and carnage in there. Their particle FX were pretty good too. They must have a pretty good library of splash and water elements. They looked like real elements composited where needed. Now that I think about it, I believe some of the guys who shot water elements when I was working on SyFY films, like Lake Placid 2, are at Asylum now. Maybe their library went with them!

This film knows what it is and plays to that nicely. A nice fun ride.

Ok, hands up. Who hasn't had aspirations to make something just like this at some point in their life?

(Did Sharkbusters backi in the 80s)

Lo and behold, the next one is even better, "Ghost Shark"...

Ghost Shark trailer

(its an actual "movie" will really air on august 22 according to this IMDB page, on Syfy..)

I guess after running out of species to crossover they are now turning into the supernatural. I'm sure in the near future there will be "Vampire Shark" or "Zombie Shark"

Heard about someone's idea for an Asylum film

I love that the asylum have found a business model that is working for them that allows them to employee not only 3D and vfx artists but all involved (actors, film crew, etc.)

The fact that the Asylum makes money on EVERY single movie they make, something most big studios can't say, is really interesting. I have friends working there and have had the opportunity to visit the studio on several occasions and I'm impressed with what the small team is able to pull off given the restrictions of the production schedule/budget/team size. Reminds me of the Roger Corman days... will be interesting to see what they deliver next.

If anyoneis in the Philly area be sure to check out Mega Bad Movie night:

It's the absolute best way to watch an Asylum film!

I would add to that, William, that they also somehow manage to keep production in L.A. whereas most SyFy movies are shot, and even have FX done in Eastern Europe.

I liked it! My suspension of disbelief didn't cut in until the third beer, but it was fine after that.

I've seen worse VFX in better movies, no serious complaints there.

It ws something nice and hokey to watch since it seems Bruce Campbell has retired...
