In need of advice
Hello everyone, I am currently a college student and not educated in the 3D design or software programming at all, but I am interested in modding character skins. I play League of Legends and have found some custom skins through leaguecraft and would like to get into creating my own custom skins.
I have been watching a couple videos over houdini apprentice and softimage mod tool, but neither of them are working on my computer and when they have I do not know what to do as far as importing the files and begin modding. I do not have a lot of money to spend on this kind of stuff, like the Maya software although I heard that it is one of the best.
My question is does anyone have some advice on what i should do to begin getting into the game modding described above. I find all of this very interesting and I would be willing to earn rites of passage and learn my way as need be.
I would like to oblige to the rules about starting topics and posts that result in useless arguments on software and videos. My question is more or less what kind of "3D graphic design" I should start with? I have Houdini Apprentice and Photoshop CS3 on my macbook pro. So moderators if this needs to be moved to the Houdini forum I have no problem with it.
Ok so I have been doing some research on some of the terms in the CG community and I believe what I am wanting to is repaint and recolor the skins and rigs that have already been created and then render them differently, but only very slightly, and change some of their animations. Also I would like to modify the particles developed for the character that has had its animation, rendering, and possibly modeling changed.
Again any help and advice is welcomed and I would also appreciate a reality check if I am getting way in over my head.
