Bloomberg: Silicon Valley Goes Hollywood: Top Coders Can Now Get Agents
Quote:
"To be a good coder in Silicon Valley is to be among the pampered elite. You get fat paychecks, people bring you free gourmet food, drivers shuttle you around town. Coders here are really treated much like talented entertainers would be down south in Hollywood. It’s a thought not lost on Altay Guvench, a coder himself who has become one of the first agents for software developers. Don’t groan. It was only a matter of time." http://www.businessweek.com/article...-now-get-agents __________________

Do note that some of the "One Man Shows" in CG and animation recently have also taken on their own representation.
We will have to observe how this pans out. __________________

As have many illustrators, including many who are very much middle class. While I realize problems can spring up in practice, in theory if you have an in-demand skill and relatively little business savvy, handing the bushiness part off to someone else makes a lot of sense. __________________

In the 80s I had a talent agent directory book and some literary agents listed in it also represented software products.

I guess in reality everything can have a "middle man"... remember Harrison Ford's character in "Hollywood Homicide"?

Funny I wonder what background an agent has to recognize the 'worth' of a good programmer. I would expect most 'typical' agents to get bleary-eyed at the first mention of C++.
