Means to remove spikes in 3d mesh

I have spikes in a 3D mesh. The mesh represents a surface (ground, landscape, etc)... but data imported generates spikes up and down. Anyone know of a way to eliminate spikes in something like this?

Thanks!

A picture would help. Also what program are you importing into? Have you tried deleting the affected polygons and rebuilding them?

Yeah check out the forum index and choose the software you are using to import. Mention more about the job itself including what you are trying to do and the file formats involved. If you cant find the software go to General Techniques and choose modelling.
