Creating a mesh from scan data

Hi,

I went and used a body scanner last week and have the scan data in .bin, .rbd and .wrl file formats.
I had hoped I would be able to import this data directly into ZBrush to create a poly mesh which I could then re-topologise to bring to Maya, however as I've not used the software before, it doesn't appear that I can do this.
Does anybody have a workflow for getting a mesh from this data?

Thanks in anticipation.

Andy

Scan data is either a point cloud in space or a tessalated tri mesh...

I'd say those formats are point could get the scanning dudes to convert it for you...

Yeah I think they are point cloud. What would I need them to convert it to? an .obj file?

Geomagic converts point clouds to polygonal models.

Speaking of which, anyone knows more about good ways to (probably automatically) re-topologize a mesh? I'm only familiar with 3ds max, there must be better ways do deal with scanned meshes?

Meshlab would be a good starting point for the cloud mesh.

Zbrush 4R4 is your friend for quadmesh retopo and reprojections.

But there are alternatives (3D Coat, Topogun...)

Thanks!

Which Geomagic product would you recommend? Wrap? Will it import the said file types?

Is MeshLab pretty good? I notice it is freeware, looks ok but doesn't list the .bin .rbd or .wrl file formats on the features list

You can also use Houdini to build a mesh from a point cloud.

I use Modo to retopo it works really well for me...
