Wanted to stop by and say "Hi!!"

Hi Everyone!

I am new to the forums and have many questions about computer science and computer design. Mainly, I would like to start working towards a career in Video Games, but I am unsure where to start looking. My biggest concern is that I've already received a Bachelors of Arts in English, and am unsure how much trouble this will cause. So, any advice where I should start looking?

It all depends on what aspect of game design you want to partake in.

Note that an 'idea man' is not an actual job.

Furthermore, why would having a BA in anything be a bad thing? Schooling is NEVER a cause for concern.

Hey man,

Check out some of the stuff in my sig. There are some nice free Intro to CS classes from Stanford, MIT, and Harvard that you might enjoy. If you want to get into Computer Science, you'll need a pretty good appetite for maths.

@Geta-Ve Thanks for the reply! I can understand there is no such job position for an 'idea-ma' and that is something I am not really looking into. I would like the game design for my own, personal reference; and that is why I am looking for a good place to learn programming. As for prior school being something that might hold me back, what I meant by the was more along the lines of financial issues (no more scholarships since I wouldn't be an Undergrad) or not being able to apply to specific schools (I guess some schools wont allow you to take Undergrad classes if you already graduated); if anything, I would think my BA degree would be a tremendous help to the learning process that comes with the Sciences. These are just things I have read off of the internet, and can be suspect for falsities. As for what I am looking for in the game industry, that is something complex. I have been playing games for a long time, but truly know little about them. Personally, I would like a glimpse of all the things they are trying, but only after I have some hands on experience with some kind of programming.

@AJ1 Thaks for the links! I will definitely check those sites out tonight after I get off of work (a few of them I have already seen such as coursea and khan academy, great sites)--the MIT one has my interest. As for Math and being an English grad, I'm not really all that bad at Math, an actually find it kind of enjoyable (I cannot say that for the exams though).
