The truth is, just sticking with a pair of 747's in my view, isn't ambitious enough. Once you accept the buildings can be destroyed by Aliens, the End of the World , or a Weather Machine , then you realize you have a LOT of choices to make something that's REALLY entertaining and an artistic stand-out.

Yeah but come on, aliens are timeless! You can make a huge, badass mothership, which is fun too, plus you can do some cool FX stuff for its death rays.

And don't only think along the lines of Independence Day (although it's obviously a great reference, heh) but also War of the Worlds. Those walkers with their death rays were truly terrifying.

Yes.. that was my point also... The context for both alien "death weapons" is different.. the ID4 motherships had this "incinerator ray" first that causes an initial fire/fireball to build inside the target, and then there's this "pulse bomb" that rides down the ray and then that's when the big explosion happens.

In "War of the Worlds" the death ray actually only disintegrated organic beings and there was more smoke and dust.

Any "weather machine" FX could involve storm clouds, lightning, a tornado... or even a tornado with twisting lightning!

It's WAY more fun than just a pair of jumbo jets.. come on.

OK.. maybe the guy still really wants to do his jumbo jets.. fine... But it's 2013 man... If your jumbo jets don't do something a little extra then you ain't trying hard enough.

Honestly, I can't even believe you entertained the idea of doing planes crashing into the building. It's just too emotionally charged and polarizing. Why would you want to potentially alienate your viewers, especially on a demo reel?

If you don't want to build a whole alien ship, I'd go with meteors, like these from Armageddon.

Yeah, sort of missed the point (I left out a critical component as well). For court, the motion would have to be based on scientific quantification and in a manner that is peer approved. However, while simulations are fairly accurate, it's very difficult to replicate real life chaos. As long as the scientific requirements have been met, then the demonstrative can be "a reasonable representation of reality or actual events".

This is also used to describe a scene when rendered with realism, but each tree or grass blade isn't necessarily in the exact place at the time of an event. Skies, lighting (natural and synthetic), etc.

Hi all,

I honestly didn't even think about anything that is mentioned in this thread until this point. During the final few days of my previous project, I was just around looking for ideas specially one that involved more of FumeFX stuff into it. I watched a lot of youtube videos and I remember watching a few videos where it had planes hitting the buildings, maybe that's where I got the lead from. All of a sudden this thing got into my mind and didn't even think about anything around it. Really the thread I started here became an eye opener for me. Within the first few posts itself I just got transformed mentally and now I just don't want to do it which I believe will definitely hurt the feelings of somebody. And also having this one in my demo reel might also make me hesitant to show it to someone in the future.

So done, now its about alien attacking the city, kind of what we have seen in the movie Independence day. Will try and improvise it to my level best.

Thanks all again for all the suggestions.
