Not sure if I saw the same trailer as you, since I am working from local sites. One I saw was clearly the opening sequence. Another I saw was more like a trailer. The art and style looks the same as SAC apart from the slight differences in character design. Most of the characters look the same. The Major and the Chief being the notable difference. Well, and whatever they did to Saito's hair...

Teru, I believe that musashidan just meant that it's remained traditional 2D and not cel shaded. I wouldn't say it'll be totally 2D, as I'm sure that they will use 3D for parts that are too difficult for hand drawn. In the TV series they used 3D for the Tachikomas that were cel shaded.

Ah yes, Saito, I don't know if I should laugh or feel sorry for him, as his redesign messed up his hair. Well at least we know it grows back in the TV series.

CGIPadawan I think the opening like sequence that Teru is talking about shows Motoko a lot better than the cover image. Although it's just clips and it's still the base design of the new concept but seeing Motoko in sequence makes her look quite good. Here-

Hopefully this isn't the new OP but I do like the music, as it fits in with GITS.

I guess it does look good... and Motoko looks better in motion... but (and this is something about Shirow).. the "sexualization" of her body is missing here... it's an important element in the Shirow "visual language" that kind of keeps the entire "loss of innocence" theme going for the entire show each time Motoko is on-screen or on-page.

Yes, I'm aware Shirow probably has "other things on his mind" as well and he's spent entire artbooks abusing his own themes to the point of lewdness... but Motoko's use of the theme was always at a higher plane.

It's missing.

But in motion she does look better than the design indicated.

Noooooooooooooo! What did they do to the Major? She sticks out like a sore thumb in that pic with the other cast members. Meh I guess her style was a bit more radical when she was younger. But wait this is set just a couple years prior to the first film. Hmmm more prosthetic body shenanigans.

Here's a new trailer for the upcoming GITS. It shows a lot more content and I feel that people don't have to worry any more, that they might have messed up but judging by the new trailer, it looks great. Motoko sure looks and sounds a lot better, still retains the character from the TV series in my opinion. I was worried that she would sound too different with the new voice actress but she has done a job playing the character.

Still can't understand the redesign of the female lead... but I will be giving ARISE a shot.

Again, I am not sure if I saw the same trailer. I found two I hadn't seen before. One is narrated by the major, going on about the 501 group and how they look like people but aren't people (my Japanese is getting rusty since I have little use for it here). The other has more traditional narration about an assassination case being investigated by the 501 specialist, her flesh doesn't exist etc...

Still, I say it looks like I would expect a prequel to SAC to look. Even if it is different writers, directors and designers, they clearly had every intention of making it appear to be a part of that entire series. I am looking forward to it. Less than a month to go apparently.

Also consider, if GITS has become any kind of flagship product for IG, they original team may still be working on something else, perhaps a follow up to Solid State Society.

I might not be able to read and understand as well I used to, but did I just see that this is a direct to video series, and that Border 1: Ghost Pain, the first episode, is 8000, which would be $79 USD?!

The trailer that I linked is the one with a standard narration and starts with the Major pointing a gun at Chief Daisuke Aramaki.

Firstly it will be a prequel, as I found a description of the plot on wiki-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_in_the_Shell:_Arise

Quote:
The official website states that the film is set in the year 2027, a year following the end of the non-nuclear World War IV. A bomb has gone off in Newport City, killing a major arms dealer who may have ties with the mysterious 501 Organization. Public Security official Daisuke Aramaki hires full-body cyber prosthesis user and hacker extraordinaire Motoko Kusanagi to investigate, but on the case with her are "Sleepless Eye" Batou who believes Kusanagi is a criminal, Niihama Prefecture Detective Togusa who is investigating a series of prostitute murders he believes are related to the incident, and Lieutenant Colonel Kurtz of the 501 Organization who also wishes to keep an eye on Kusanagi. A recurring part of the films will be the mysterious Fire Starter computer virus, as well as looking into the lives of Batou and Togusa before the formation of Public Security Section 9.

I found on Amazon Japan that the first DVD costs ¥4469 discounted from ¥6090. The first OVA seems to be 65 mins long according to amazon. The Blu ray costs ¥5239.

In case you can't wait for the June 22nd blu-ray release for the first episode, the official Ghost in the Shell ARISE youtube channel posted the first 8 minutes from the first episode online with English subtitles.

FUNimation announced that they have the North American license for this series, and plan to screen the first two parts theatrically as well as release on home video. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new...ell/arise-anime

I like GITS and I'm a huge Masamune fan but this does not look very good.

Enjoyed that 8 minute preview, thanks for posting it Pomru.

As with all of the GitS stuff, they're all set in separate universes, so I'm cool with a bit of a different take on the characters and backgrounds, looking forward to seeing the rest of the episode.

Not too sure why they'd think screening the first two eps theatrically is a good investment, this feels like it has a pretty limited market.

So there seems to be a second one...

http://youtu.be/Y8VrUcaCKXs

The first one was ok, it seemed to violate all the past set up in the second TV series...I guess it is basically a reboot of the TV show, at an earlier point in time, in movie form once a year. Seems cool.

Personally enjoyed the first ep, Ghost Pain and while Im sad it wasnt actually a continuation to the second season, Im just happy to see more GITS stuff coming out. Though like most have said, whats the deal with teen major? Thats kinda lame, I want the old major back :/ On a side note, has anyone heard of that MMO GITS shooter thats coming out next year?
