Turning your CGI tests into short films

I love films like this, very short but very strong on theme and visuals. Not much of a story but enough suspense to bring out the graphics.

This short film, SMOGGUS was started off as an animator trying to learn a new software...

Boy...that is bad. The smoke sim has a way low resolution, the compositing and color correction is way off, the particle effect thing that follows the kid looks very out of place specially with that lens flare thing , the environment in general is poorly lit and the 3d part looks way fake. I don't know why it took so many people to make it, specially when there was no apparent quality control. And sure, its a 3d animator testing a software with the guys at his office, but was expecting something better from people at Ubisoft.

" The short has the eeriness of Donnie Darko and the surreal entrapment in M83s Midnight City video clip."

Donnie Darko? Really? As it is right now it has the eeriness of a Videocopilot tutorial. Sorry, if it seems harsh but this is a case study for that thread on this board about the celebration of mediocrity.

And sorry but i don't think you're supposed to promote your site like that.

Marco, the original thread on your website was interesting and welcome, but please don't turn your participation here into a streak of threads presenting shorts fishing for hits in GD.

If the creator of the short, or someone unrelated to the website hosting it, wanted to post their accomplishment in the news section that'd be ok, but when a site owner posts their site's wrapper of a vimeo hosted video (http://vimeo.com/58838420) instead than directly to the video, it takes on a slightly different smell.

Not implying anything bad with my post, please don't feel accused, just saying for the future

As for the short itself, the shoot was much better than the rather default-y, OOTB fluid sims TBH. It seems like a decent amateur cinematographer trying their hands at putting some vfx in it rather than a vfx artist trying their hand at dressing up their tests nicely.
