Viral marketing campaign aside, I have heard that the CG and VFX in this film makes the Transformers films look like they were produced for a buck and a quarter. One interesting tidbit I heard is that Del Toro decided not to use mo-cap for the robots, and instead opted for key-frame animation. I understand his logic, as he wants the robots to move like, well, robots, but Andy Serkis was King Kong so we'll see how that goes I suppose. Overall I'm extremely excited for this movie.

Definitely up there as the worse 'teaser' of all time. After watching this I wouldn't want to watch anything with even the most remote connection with it. Absolutely dreadful.

And probably isn't even in the actual film.

Probably slapped together by Marketing in one night and Del Toro might have learned of its existence at the same time we all did.

(He might also be ranting angrily about it even as I type this.)

Strangely feels less like Evangelion and more like... Mazinger Z.

Very good job.

I'm totally on-board with this, even though it looks ridiculous in the extreme.

C'mon, is that jet fighter really flying right up to it and using its cannon? Pul-ease! What, ground-attack missiles, bombs, and nukes don't exist anymore? I know, I know, no nukes so close to a city and all that. What about Daisy Cutters? Mavericks? Harpoons? Freakin' cruise missiles? Jeez, don't any of these screenwriters do any research at all? Yeah, I get it - but then no giant robots, I know. But I'm growing tired of these movies where the modern military uses WW1 tactics.

I'll still watch it, though. You know, for science.

I wonder if it's one of those things where they have already used up their missiles and are going in as a last ditch. I think Del Toro is smart enough to address that.

It could also be a reference to how clueless/ineffective the regular military is in all of the Godzilla movies.

This almost feels like it will be a sendup of all these genres/movies at the same time it's a loving tribute to them.

I think that by keeping it light and fun instead of attempting to make it 100% serious and dark, it can be somewhat silly, which giant monster movies already are, but get away with it.

Well since you mention it I didnt like how the press release premise was worded where it said these monsters appeared and it drained resources fighting them until they, in desperation, developed these (must have taken a lot of resources to build and test) giant robots which somehow were able to do what missiles and bombs could not do. It just doesnt sound right to me except if they are trying to emulate the writing of the weaker Japanese monster movies which isnt a very lofty goal to strive for: But I am sure it will entertain as it is.
