While you can't compare The Hobbit to your general prequel because of reasons already stated here, stretching out this rather short book to 2 or even 3 films clearly has financial reasons and appears as somewhat of a ripp-off at first. On the other hand, if it allows for a higher prodcuation value, then I'm actually ok with that.
Clearly, noone expects less than a milestone with respect to epicness, which again feels weird considering the children's book nature of the material.
I, for once, have trust in Jackson's taste and respect for the source material, so I'm ok with the already obvious stretches and alterations (and I totally agree with Michael5188 regarding the dwarve design for cinematic reasons).
I just longe to have the feeling one more time that I had for the LOTR-trilogy, which I predict will become silmilarly iconic to the 2000's as the Star Wars-trilogy was for the late1970s/early1980s. If nothing, it is one of the truest book adaptions ever and an industry phenomena unparalleled

Lol, oh man I'm so glad I watched that.

That Galadriel had at least 50% more sass. "Get out!"

I hope people will think of it less as a prequel and more as 'the film that should actually have been made first but for some mysterious reason wasn't'.

Agreed.

I'm actually excited about The Hobbit for two reasons:
First, I'm currently re-reading the story for the umteenth time, but this time to my 6 year old son who is currently loving the story.
Second, when we finish the book I'm going to take him to go see the first part at the theater. He is sooo excited about it, too. During exciting parts in the book, he keeps telling he can't wait to see it at the movies.
I'm just enjoying experiencing The Hobbit through his eyes.

That's a good idea Locutus. I think my kids might have enough self control now to read it with me.

Do it, man. You won't regret it.

It's funny, the other day I forgot to mark the page where we last left off and my son remembered the page and the paragraph. If I miss a day of reading it's like the world was ending or something.

Just wanted to say thanks again for the suggestion, Locutus.
I really didn't know what to expect from him but he is loving it. Definitely the best (and most advanced) story he's ever read or heard. He has a slight reading problem so this is really getting him excited about reading himself.

Great to finally see some attention given to VFX workers as opposed to boring actors.
The beard motion capture bit was hilarious! Weta folk are awesome!

*Watches Video 9*

Ahhh! The Abbey Road orchestra sounds soo good (@12:16 in)! I had to crank up my THX speakers for that.

Again, everyone is 'busting hump' for the premiere.
