Hehe, I was waiting for Dutch's reaction.

Yes, I see that the scenes are from the book for the most part but they just feel different. I'm not going to say whether that's good or bad yet, I shall wait for the film. And I shall be there opening night I'm sure.

I really hope they don't show him and I don't see him until the film. I'm enjoying the anticipation.

I'd think we wouldn't see Smaug until the second movie, y'know, titled "The Desolation of Smaug".

Can't wait to see and hear Sherlock's voice coming out of him. I do wonder how insane Del Toro's version would have been though. Probably have 20 eyes and shit.

Won't talk book spoilers for those who don't want to know, but I think I can see where the breaks are going to be now, vs. how they were going to split it for the two-movie setup.

When bilbo will chat with Smaug, it's going to bring us back to Baker Street!

In the book, the dwarves are quite solemn. I hope they are not too clownish in the movie.

They are clearly making some major additions to the book. My bet is that Radagast the brown will be the first to notice the rise of Sauron in DolGuldur/Mirkwood. He will send the eagles to warn Elrond/Galadriel (thus making the eagles available to save Gandalf and cie from cooking later). The first movie will stop after escaping the goblins. (no signs of Beorn). Second movie will deal with Smaug. Third movie will be the Battle of five armies and the wiping of Dol Guldur's ass.

Does anyone think that Torin do not look to much like dwarf?
For me, he don't give me impression it's a dwarf, but human.
Also, I imagined him a lot older, then this 30 year guy.

Anyone feel the same?

Yeah, it would be very nice to see a Dol Guldur destruction, and Sauron's (intentional) escape.
I think they will also do the part (at the begging) when Gandalf finds Torins father in the dungeons of Dol Guldur, who gave him map and the keys.
After all, it would be great to see a fight between dwarfs and orcs on the western gates of Moria, because orcs slained Torin's grandfather, but I don't have much hope that will happen.

Yep.

I'd say some of them look more like rejects from a Klingon casting for the latest rendition of Star Trek.
Their design is so much further removed from Tolkien's description than I had feared. What happened to their brightly coloured hoods? Or their characteristic beards (with specific colours) or their costumes?

Ori looks like he escaped from a mental institute. Nori appears to have been attacked by a starfish. Dwalin might as well be renamed to 'qoH jIH', because that's what he really does look like. Poor Bofur got given Pippi Longstocking's haircut and Doctor Who's scarf, while Bifur reminds me of the male incarnation of Cruella deVille. Balin could be mistaken for Santa, and what the hell is with Kili? Boyish looks with a bit of stubble and long unwashed hair makes a dwarf in PJ's opinion??? (Obviously there to cater to the female half of the audience).
Out of all of them, Gloin is the only one I'd say looks like a proper dwarf. Of course they were "stuck" with that one as a relic from the other movies.

For me, Balin look the strangest of them all.
It's like he is not part of the group, looks so different then the others.
Something on him is very strange, and I don't know what:

They better stick with Balin look in LOTR

Bofur looks like Gengis Kahn to me:

I agree Thorin looks very humanish. Don't get a dwarf vibe from him.

But I love all the others. I'm glad they look different and have weird hairstyles, it'd be boring if they were all just Gimli look-alikes. Also this way it's easier for me to remember which is which.

The chap who plays Bofur - James Nesbitt - is a very funny and charismatic actor. I'm really looking forward to seeing him and suspect he might steal the show.

Regarding the vastly differing looks amongst the dwarves - could it be age related? Looking at Balin, he looks like my very old uncle, especially with that enormous nose ( a drinkers nose? ). Perhaps those exaggerated looks are related to extensive age and drinking? - something dwarves are very fond of I hear.

Just a thought.

Maybe I'm wrong of course...

I lost interest in his stuff after LOTR. The way he rewrote Two Towers and Return of the King did nothing for me. Between that and 3 episodes of Frodo looking like he had a bad case of constipation most of the time just ruined it for me. Oh yeah, Hobbits are supposed to be fat and generally don't change body proportions from shot to shot.

I think you might, as I did, appreciate Warner Brothers' 1944 Lord of the Rings a lot more than PJs POS. Starring Humphrey Bogart as Frodo.
