Didn't mean to offend anyone, just the the 'Prequel' connection came up in conversation recently and I thought it was interesting.

I don't think anyone was offended! It's just important to remember that we're in Tolkien's own hands, in a way. The Hobbit is a lovely book and although I'm sad that we won't get to see Del Toro's vision of it, I'm glad at least that someone is making it. I hope people will think of it less as a prequel and more as 'the film that should actually have been made first but for some mysterious reason wasn't'.

Am I the only one who thinks Gollum looks way too cute with those big, bubbly eyes? lol
But anyways, I like Peter Jackson as a director and liked all his projects since the first LotR movie.

Indeed, that is the case. The music in the beginning is Audiomachines "Sirens of Hyporion". The others I don't know, but they seem very familiar from other trailers to me.
Definitely not Howard Shores compositions.

I can't help it but these hobbits are allways appealing to me as little retards.
They give these movies allways a touch of being not so cool and not so believable. It's like putting little hero robot smurf's in Matrix... Just sucks. I never believe they can fight.
....Wish there would be a movie about the world of the Elf's

I can't say I disagree with that idea but that is not the story Tolkien wrote. He definitely liked his hobbits.

I'm definitely excited to see the Hobbit. It was one of my favorite movies as a kid, back when there was very little fantasy wise to see. Now its been a while since I've read the book but I don't recognize half of what is in that trailer. Judging by what PJ has done in the past (in the appendixes), I'm sure he's rewritten most of the story. Either way, I'll be seeing this in the theater.

Wyatt, I read the book earlier this year for the first time since I had last tried in like 3rd grade. By what I can see in the trailer, almost all of it is in the book. A lot of scenes look like they've just been expanded upon, so maybe that's what you're seeing.

You cannot be serious?!?!? What trailer did you watch? Or rather, what book did you read?

Now now D, step away from the thread... You know it's bad for your blood pressure. Go do that thing I asked you to do earlier on Facebook.

The situations in the book corresponds to the situations in the trailer, there is nothing new, maybe the execution is what bothers you, I don't know.
Maybe I missed something because I didn't analyze trailer to the last bit and I have no intention.
Care to explain ?

What scene you didn't recognize from the book? It's Bilbo's House, Trools, Misty Mountains, Darkwood... Maybe you refer to Galadriel showing, as she (personaly) is not mentioned in the Hobbit. But then again, Gandalf told that he have to left them to go to the (white) council, and we all now that Galadriel will be there.
So, everything in the trailer is just from the book.
------------------

As for me, I am not having too much fate in Piter Jackon.
He ruined (imho) the LOTR trilogy by making some of the scenes over-pathetic.
Sure, LOTR had (and still have) one of the greatest atmosphere, costumes, battles, and I really like that parts, but when it comes to the emotional scenes, Peter just failed.
He also failed in character development and totally (unnecessary) he ruined some characters from the book.
- Gandalf at first.
Instead of brilliant, energetic, rhetoric, charismatic Gandalf from the book, we see a tired old man that can't be a leader even to the kids.
Aragorn:
Again, lack of charisma. He looks like Aragorn, but it doesn't feel like Aragorn. When he gives an command, it sounds so weak, that is looking funny. Also, those long pathetic scenes with Aragorn and Arwen was so boring and pointless, that I wanted to skip them even when watching them for the first time.
From the other side, Saruman and Bilbo turned out very well.

Probably he's referring to the Radagast bunny sled ....

anyway, it's a great trailer, I really love how the shire looks, makes me want to move there

but I've lost faith in trailers... prometheus's one put the final nail in the coffin...

going to see all three of them in theater, actually after an initial reaction I'm rather glad that they're doing 3 movies, I like PJ stuff since Heavenly Creatures
