Speaking of Total Recall, I think those were better robot designs. VERY DERIVATIVE, like they are still ripping of Chris Cunningham after all these years, and therefore Tetra Vaal, BUT, I think they are better balanced with use of white/black panels.

Maybe his helmet will light up:

Though I actually don't mind the helmet as much as the rest of it. I think my biggest complaint is it's all just so boring.

I read Verhoeven had his own idea for a new film-with Robocop having been boxed up for years then reactivated to deal with a major crime spree.

I totally wish they did that.

I also wish he had done Robocop 2 like he almost did-with Clarence Boddicker as the new Robo-villain instead of Cain. That movie was very disappointing without Verhoeven and Poledouris' music.

This movie makes me as excited as if Omni Consumer Products board room decided to make a movie of TJ Laser.

That could have had a lot of potential. I would have no problem with an updated/ugraded design, just not something that loses the whole point of the original.

RoboCop 2 was only worth it for the mechanical design and Tippett's awesome animation and fight scenes.

All I can say about the new design is "WTF were they thinking?".

It's like somebody forgot to give a pass of paint to a cos-play comic convention goofy version of the (already spectacularly uninspiring) GI-Joe exos.

I'm fine with Iron-Man sleek, but IronMan still managed to make it look like 300Kg of nasty while being sleek and modern. This is just someone tracing an evangelion set of panel lines onto a dude and not having time for the last pass after they put primer on.

I'm fine with modernizing too, the old robocop suite even done to modern standards, with nostaligia glasses off, wouldn't have held up, but the basic philosophy of hydraulics cased in corrugated rubber joining bulky metal parts should have stayed.

Because it's fun and it's what movie gossip and spoilers are about?

I'm sure people won't form such a strong opinion from this that they will now actively avoid all trailers and make a flawed early judgment call on it, and risk missing out on a potentially awesome masterpiece (yeah...).

I couldn't agree more, except that the GI-Joe exos suited that cheesy flick. This is Robocop? It's more like Crysis.

Man I watched robocop 2 probably 1000+ times as a kid. Cain is still the best damn robot design ever made. Give me this over the crappy transformers like design where you have no silhouette or character whatsoever.

(starting to think that a few more changes and it wouldn't have needed the RoboCop licence)

Played a bit with Photoshop....

That is definitely a great touch.
He looks bigger and much more defined, and it's closer to the original.
I hope the creators of Robocop is watching this.
