Dave,

Thanks. I think I'll push it as far as I can value~wise, then start to color from there.

Very nice portrait / study! I quite like the lips and nose area especially.

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

David - I like your portrait. YouŽve captured the feeling and the impression well! And I agree with Rebeccak, the lips are very good. A suggestion - put some values in the eyes and you get more life in the portrait. A lightreflection for example.
Rebeccak - Color! Yeeeaahhh

IŽve been trying all night to start a new study. But canŽt concentrate. We have a big snowstorm moving in here at the moment, and my energy goes to weathercasts and updates on the radio. Just realized that I will not be able to drive to work tomorrow, so maybe IŽll find some time to paint then. The problem is that the kids have to stay at home as well, and we know how much peace and quite that brings

SaraD,

LOL! A double~edged sword ~ a snow day, and kids! Hmm, maybe the kids will enjoy sleeping in? All day?

Looking forward to seeing your lightning~fast painting when it develops.

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Step 1 of Colorization: things still looking metallic at this stage due to Blending Modes...will go back and tweak using Normal Mode, as per Stahlberg's excellent painting tutorial.

Nice latest update darling... I love the shape contrast you made... really the good choice for this pose...

...mmmmh, maybe feet are little bit too big, not ? and pink too much present for the moment...

Thanks Lolo! Lol, you scared me...I went to edit my post and didn't realize you had replied...

Yep, I agree, the first one was too pink. So I changed the Blending Mode on my top painting layer from "Normal" to "Color" in the 2nd image ~ which do you like better?

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Lolo,

Good morning. LOL, I know, after looking at it from a distance, I realized I was ruining all my value relationships...so setting the blending mode back to color helps it. I'll have to go in and tone down the highlights just a bit...as it looks too shiny / bright right now.

Oh, and the feet...I always make the hands / feet bigger initially so I can cut into them with the bkgrd color...I find it easier to paint that way for the hands feet, than to paint the exact right size fingers...guess I'm wierd that way!

Definitely learning a lot from this one!

EDIT: Ah, cold for you there, eh? It's sleeting just a little here...I hate cold weather with a passion! I'm already ready for spring...

Sounds good, Lolo. How did your other (work) 2D pieces turn out? Toonshaded animations? Anything you can post?

Following Rebbeca's advise, I forced myself to use three colours only, which I then blended together. I'm rather pleased with the rendering, light wise (though I'm afraid some parts are "overexposed"), not sure about the pose, will have to look at it again tommorow with fresh eyes.
