Hi Matt,

Nice color scheme and sketch, but where is the focus of the image? I would like to see many more of those pink jellyfish / mushroom thingies, take a look at the Finding Nemo jellies for inspiration and see what you can do differently. Think in more sweeping / epic terms / and try to find a more dramatic angle ~ I recommend doing small / fast comps, just sketches to really get the sweep and flow first before adding detail. Just some suggestions.

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Matt,

Hey, that's better I think I would go for that really long long sweeping gaze, you know, the best compositions seem to go that extra mile where you think it's going to stop, but then it just continues, and there's that added 'oomph' to it ~ like the winning 3D entry for the Challenge, there's an odd size to the image which is surprising, and the perspective carries your view way up and way down, and all across the page ~ keep pushing your comps to the next level, and then go beyond your best one!

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

hey everyone , heres a quick concept i did. I was just sitting around and i thought of the idea that that the ruins to atlantis was in an arms reach , and i have kids on the beach looking for neat little things while walking around and relaxing.

The last concept is really funny! I had also some thought going into this direction, just for fun

But I think this should be left as a joke and you should keep on your other ideas

this is a very nice concept I think. I loved the perspective. Somehow it looks like it has motion

I totally agree with Ismail on this one. Even though I must admit the beach concept is nice also, I comic approach is always welcome. It depends what you want to do concering the matte though!

Ha! I, too, had the idea of doing an above/below type image. I originally thought of a fishing boat or something above, with the fishermen blind to the wonders below, but yours is much funnier with the kids looking for "treasures" with the lost city is only yards away.

It would really work great if you could focus more on one of the kids having discovered a coin or some valuable artifact with the others running to see what he's found. Meanwhile, in the below water area, the city hides, perhaps on the isle's underwater cliff-face.

Great idea, though - can't wait to see the final.

Liking the new concept a lot, some suggestions:

-lift the city so the viewer's looking up at it.
-emphasize the hell out of the cool shipwreck on the right.
-use the ghostly tendril things as compositional devices to lead the eye across the entire page.

Great stuff!

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Great work Matellis. This is the first time Iíve followed a challenge from beginning to end, and Iíll be watching yours closely as I feel it will surly be one of the finals. I love the concept of Atlantis and I think your hitting the nail on the head every time while at the same time creating something so unique comparend to what many imagine.

I know your still in the concept stage so Iím not sure how much time you want to spend tuning that recent image, but if your going in that direction, Iíd agree with Rebeccak. But, regardless, I love the shipwreck and I would advise you to keep it somewhere in your piece. Iím surprised that no one else has included that so far. It adds so much thought. Such an amazing city in such a beautiful world, but a deteriorating ancient shipwreck suggests otherwise. Also, the concept of the tunnel provides something many of the others lack (other than a trail for the eye to follow), and thatís a sense of something larger than whats visible. Obviously that tunnel leads somewhere, indicating that the awesome view in front of you is only a glimpse at whats really there.

Cant wait to see more!

Hey Matt,

I really like the last image but I would prefer to see it with the purple bubbles that you did earlier rather than that white corridor tube thingy. It reminds me of some short of underwater corridor in an aquarium..

I really liked the organic feel those purple things had..

keep it up!

Final concept

Hey everyone

I just finished my final concept drawing and this is what i will go with. It will be a mixture of the organic idea I had also with some metal structure. Hopefully tonight I will start collecting some good references and tomorrow start building stuff in 3d

Cheers!
