awesome stuff, I am interested how matte paintings work and stuff

I guess let me be the first to ask question about Matte paintings.

- Does Matte paintings begin from a real image or can it be computer constructed. e.g. starts of 2D painting and mixture of 3d models and once it forms a scene, can that be called Matte painting
