Norberto Idiart - Showcase

Hi all.
This is my first post. I don't know if i should open a thread for each image i want to show, or just put them all in this one...


Well this first concept is an WIP. I need a break after 2 weeks working on it and some critics/comments made by fresh and keen eyes would be lovely acepted.

I’ve started this concept with the idea of study and learn linear workflow. The Blender foundation made available all the footage used in the shortmovie ‘Tears of Steel’ in 4k exr format. I though this would be a great opportunity to paint in 16bit big canvas.
As my .PSD file got bigger and bigger i just gave up working with those freaking 16bits and finished the image in 8bits.
I didn't put much effort on composition... light, values and texturing is where i spent more time.


Plate provided by the Blender Foundation. Textures from CGtextures. 2 weeks of work in my spare time.

hi

I like your concept so far, I like the feel of old bridge connecting futuristic buildings. Maybe look at more city references to integrate all the elements together once you have them. The buildings might be a bit more silhouetted against the sky. Looking forward to seeing the work in progress. Nice

Some new art / exercises

Hello mates,
hope you all are having a nice 2014 !


Well by the end of 2013 i did a tutoring with mr. Jaime Jasso (ILM Lead Artist and one of this forum moderator) at his online school, cgpreceptor.com.
Highly recommended for the ones who can comunicate in spanish. The classes, method and online structure are great, not to mention the level of artists/tutors. Personally, for me it was great investment in education.

Well, for now on i will bring this thread back to live and post the results of some of my exercises…

In this one:
Some plate adjustments, cleanup and sky replacement.
Then 3D modeling of the Factory, compositing, paintover and tweaks.

For me there is a lack of detail and volume on build's facades, but for 1 week work, i'm ok with the result.

Day for night

Day for night conversion.

Joined 4 photos to make the panoramic plate. Then day for nigh conversion, some manipulation do add the rocket's platform, some 3d for rockets (model by t4k1t, donwloaded in blendswap.com) and fence, and then rips of fun adding detail and light paint on this one.

And this is the final project:

Based on the original oilpainting by James Gurney "Sauropolis Gate":


Some extension, rips of photoshop, 3d, a full CG tree made with particles, ocean simulation, multiple projection cameras, some patches, some homemade greenscreen, lots of compositing and a great learning process.
