Modeling: the set - testing

I'm still alive and still in the game, although last few weeks have been busy, hence the lack of updates. For now i'm playing around with the 'ground' - at the moment the scale is wrong, it looks too small. Maybe some size reference will help.

azazel here... It`s actually an end of the journey for many of us

OK, it`s just fun. Good luck

PS. Your entry at the current stage looks very poetic, but a bit obscure as for me. I couldn`t guess the meaning w/o looking @ the description. The gellyfish ship is a brilliant idea, but I also couldn`t recognize it. I wonder if it would be necessary to sacrify some poetic atmosphere for the sake of clearness. Just guessing how you will solve that problem...

Hopefully, the characters will help in that matter, as well as certain details. We'll see

Shading (Textured and lit): more testing of the ground

Just playing with the ground some more, experimenting with shaders and render passes. Time to move on to vegetation. Not yet sure how to approach it, though.

Wow that landscape looks unbelievable!, plus it looks just like your concept. The small blue lights add a lot to it I think. The sac thing is looking nice too. Are you going to be painting the background?

Wonderful colors -- really have enjoyed watching your 3D work come together, following such an expressive interesting concept sketch. Great work. Looking forward to seeing the final image!

Good luck

Concept Sketch: new direction

I was busy again for last weeks, so not much progress... except, of course, new direction of the concept. Something was gnawing at me with the first one - either the monochrome palette, horizontal format, and, most of all, the calm, peaceful look of it all. So i did some sketching again, and what came out is in vertical format, with more dynamic (at least to me) camera angle, and some new color possibilities. It's still underwater-inspired, that won't change.

THe image is just a quick, scribbled-over render of the physalia and some new environment. I want lots of strange vegetation, and some human built structure to show the scale. Light is temporary as well.

Let's hope i'll manage to finish in time....
