I have a hard time figuring out the best way to do renders so I need all the time I can get for the final scene to tinker with.
If I change the shape of any of the characters, I'll have to re-create new "object space" normal maps cause I can't get "tangent space" normal maps to work well in Lightwave.
Hopefully if I have the time once eveything else is done, I will.

makaron:
Thank you sir

Wow a waver ay... The guy who started me with all this 3d mess many moons ago is still a dedicated lightwaver... It's a finnicky package but I still think it's one of the best modellers to date... clearly you have that aspect down pat I'm digging the textures ,wishing you luck with the rendering phase and again, loving the vibe in this piece mate

btw Mak (wont like me saying this ) is a ma'am

Modeling: teenywink tree rough: unfinished

Just gettin started on the teenywink tree.
This is what I have roughed in so far. I have a long way to go yet, but it's fun putting it together.

Thanks DaddyMack, it's a blast learing this thing.
I started out using AC3D many moons ago myself. I still have some renders over at their official web site gallery. I've modeled on and off over the years, but never anything consistant. That is until this past year when I fell in love with modeling all over again. I also use ZBrush which is the weirdest, yet neatest modeler to use.

" btw Mak (wont like me saying this ) is a ma'am"

Oops, my bad. Sorry bout that, hehe.

Cool! I started in Alias AutoStudio once upon a time and have dabbled in many apps since...(currently learning Max) ZBrush is a huge standout to me too for it's leap in mesh and texture treatment... Your tree would love the Z treatment Speaking of which, I think the tree would benefit from just a slight taper (wider at the bottom) in its trunk, unless you think it will detract from the feeling of altitude...

lol Mak probably would rather we all assume she was a dude... no apologies necessary me thinks...

This piece is just too sweet man Classic...

Modeling: teenywink tree further progress

Most of the modeling for the tree is done except for some branches and leaves for the limbs and vines.
I can't wait to take this to ZBrush and texture this bad baby.

the new details really finish it off well! I like the stairs curling around. great stuff!

Old 04 April 2006   #69

shakes:
Tankya much. I thought about using rope to tie the stairs to the vines, but that would "up" my poly count to about a gazillion and with your cat taking up about half of that, I wouldn't have enough to finish it.....hehe

toongo:
Thankya. I haven't thought about how I will create the details, but I just want to come up with something different if I can. I just don't want to do what people see all the time which would be boring.

thedirtypaw:
Tanks. Sheesh, almost forgot about the dragonfly. The only part that I might have problems is with the wings. I don't know how I want to handle them as yet.

it's going great. It's going to be one of the most original pieces. I'd like to be able to predict more about his journey at the first look.

Hey man, very cool looking concept! The translation to 3D is going very smoothly. That tree house is too cool.

pinto:
Thanks pinto, I appreciate that. It's extremely hard to be original around here with all the great talent I see here.

mmbenya:
Thanks man. It took me a couple of evenings just to cut everything up to create the UV's necessary to texture it. I'm going to try and start that as soon as I can.....Time's running short.
