Just got some base materials on there so far. The liquids are gone because I'm simulating the fluids right now in RF. Have a few light sources in there at the moment but basically just so I can get a feel for what I want. The only thing here that is final are the pipes and the lovely Frankenstein poster!

For a scene where most of your objects are back-lit, you really want to play-up the bounce light, rims, and kicks, to make sure the objects all get enough shaping and variety in their lighting. It would be OK to go really dark in the shelf under the books, but the bright pools of light on the table should each cause some bounce light, and there could be kicks and rims and reflections on the left side of a lot of the shiny objects.

The front of the table facing us seems very bright and blank. Put something there, or crop it out of the shot.

Thanks Jeremy for your comments I'll surely take these comments seriously and start working on it.

Hi,
hope I will find some time to work on this challenge. Great theme!

here is my first render. I converted the model to Modo and set up materials so far. The lighting is just a HDRI so far but that will change soon :-)

I think I will go for a classic still life look here.

Cheers, Florian

Hi,

congrat for this interesting theme. Here is my first entry and still missing a lot of work. Just testing lights, shadows, positioning of objects,....

I'm a little sad because I want to put two more rats and I had some time working on it without good results. I'll try later.

Good work to everyone

Well,

everyone's going gr8 ...

though I have noticed one thing... the topic or theme.. is " the MAD scientist lab"

but I dont see that reflecting in most of the renders here so far. the renders are good..but nothing depicts that the lab belongs to a mad scientist... ( now I dunno how to bring in that feel or mood...am working on that part too)

I might be wrong... but anyway good work everybody.

thanx kanooshka for this exciting challenge.
shall post my work soon.

I speak for me. It is to early. Therefore want to put two rats. One that is trying to save the trapped and the other to flee because the scientist is to come. And I want show the scientist to enter with the shadows on the ground.

So let's wait and see the evolution of the other images...

trying to zero in on lighting only. very very little texturing as yet. wanted to pursue a classic evil scientist kinda image with the strong light pointing up. i'm afraid it's not quite there yet. lightwave, no post processing.

Lot of cool ideas in there. I think I have to steal the lightening idea... got some plans for it.

Can totally see where you're going with it and its got a great feel.
