make fire gradually build up in fumefx

Hi everyone! I have a seen where a character is holding a sword... and i want the sword to emit smoke.. so i put the sword geometry as a source emitter... so far its easy... except i want the bottom start emitting and make it gradually grow to the tip. How could i achieve this effect in fumefx?

Any help would be appreciated!

You can use animated texture map in the smoke slot of the object source for this (gradient ramp + a bit of noise).
